Appointments Process
The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee was formed in 1988, and the Justices of the Peace Appointments Advisory Committee, in 2007. These committees operate independently of the Ontario Court of Justice. As a convenience, information about their procedures and their work are included here.
Registration
It is strongly advised that applicants review both the Selection Criteria and the Frequently Asked Questions before proceeding with an application to better determine your potential fit with the role of a justice of the peace.
Further to the Selection Criteria, applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:
- a high level of achievement in your professional/community life,
- insight that you have derived from visits to courts presided over by current justices of the peace,
- an understanding of the role of a justice of the peace, and
- sufficient knowledge of the judicial region and base court where you are applying.
