Cheryl Appell has been awarded the first annual Mary Lou Benotto Award for Excellence in Family Law.
The award was presented March 27, 2025, at the 19th Family Law Summit.
The award was established by the Chief Justice of Ontario, Michael Tulloch, to recognize the legacy and extraordinary contributions of the Honourable Mary Lou Benotto, a pillar of family law in this province.
In presenting the award, Chief Justice Tulloch said, “For more than 35 years, Cheryl Appell (of Dickson Appell LLP) has been a leader and innovator in the field of adoption law. She has helped shape the legal framework surrounding adoption in Canada, while supporting countless families with her deep expertise and unwavering kindness.
“Justice Benotto once wrote that the hallmark of a great family law judge is the ability to see both the law and the human being standing before the court. Cheryl Appell, through decades of service, has done exactly that.”
Congratulations!
