Practice Advisory Concerning Family Long Motions in the Toronto Region

Effective September 15, 2016

This Practice Advisory applies to all Family Law long motions (over 1 hour) in the Toronto Region.  It supplements the Consolidated Practice Direction Concerning Family Cases in the Toronto Region which came into effect on July 1, 2014.

Counsel and parties are advised to refer to the relevant parts of the Consolidated Provincial Practice Directions and any other applicable Toronto region-specific Practice Directions or Guides, which are available on the Superior Court of Justice website at: www.ontariocourts.ca/scj.

Elimination of “Placeholder” Motions

The Trial Coordinator will continue to schedule dates for long motions when requested by the parties.  The Trial Coordinator will vacate any long motion date unless the Notice of Motion along with supporting materials and affidavits are served and filed within 10 days after the motion has been scheduled.
