Media Subscriber List

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice maintains a Media Subscriber List for two purposes: to notify the media of any requested discretionary publication ban or other discretionary limit on the open court principle, and to send the media the Court’s daily media reports.

Discretionary Publication Bans and Other Limits on the Open Court Principle

Further to the Court’s practice directions, parties requesting a discretionary publication ban are required to notify the media of their request. Additionally, the Court will determine on a case-by-case basis whether parties requesting any other discretionary limit on the open court principle are also required to inform the media of their request. In any case in which notice to the media is required, parties will notify the media using the Court’s media notification system. More specifically, parties are required to complete the Notice of Request for Publication Ban Form, the contents of which will be emailed to those members of the media on the Media Subscriber List. Members of the media can request to be added to the media subscriber list by completing the form on the Media Subscriber List

Please note: this process is inapplicable to publication bans imposed by statute. This process pertains only to requests for a discretionary publication ban.

Daily Media Reports

To support the Canadian media’s ability to report on Superior Court of Justice proceedings, the Court also sends out its Daily Media Report to those on the Media Subscriber List. The Court’s Daily Media Reports provide the daily docket, including links to virtual hearings, for all civil, family, criminal, Divisional Court, and small claims hearings province-wide, except for judicial pretrials and in camera matters. Members of the media can request to be added to the media subscriber list by completing the form on the Media Subscriber List
