Standard Document Naming Protocol

All counsel and litigants must ensure that all documents filed with the Court comply with the naming convention as described below:

  • Document type
  • Party submitting the document
  • Name of the party submitting the document (including initials if the name is not unique to the case), and
  • Date on which the document was created or signed, in the format DD-MM-YYYY (e.g. 12-OCT-2022).

Document names shall not include firm-specific naming conventions, abbreviations, or file numbers.

For example, documents should be saved as follows:

In Civil:

  • Expert Report – Defendant – Loblaws – 13-MAR-2021
  • Financial Statement Form 1 – Respondent – A. Wong – 21-NOV-2021

In Family:

  • Financial Statement Form 13.1 – Respondent – A. Wong – 21-NOV-2021
  • Case Conference Brief Form 17A – Applicant – G. Singh – 13-MAR-2022
  • Affidavit for Divorce Form 36 – Applicant – Nathanson – 12-JAN-2023

In Criminal:

  • 11b Application – Defence – Smith – 12-OCT-2022
