Finding Legal Help and Representation

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice tries the most serious criminal offences in the province. All accused persons are encouraged to seek independent legal advice and representation. While every accused has the right to represent themselves, it must be emphasized that a trained criminal defence lawyer will assist with your defence considerably. Judges, Crown Attorneys and court staff are prohibited from providing legal advice. If you decide to represent yourself you are obligated to follow the procedural rules of the court, including any practice directions, and will be responsible for managing your own defence and informing yourself on the law and legal procedures. While the information contained on this website may assist you through the court process, it is not legal advice and should not be used as a substitute for hiring a criminal defence lawyer.
