Notice to Counsel of Record and Self-Represented Parties Regarding Criminal, Civil and Family Cases

Changes to Regional Schedule for May, 2019

The 2019 Superior Court of Justice Spring Conference originally scheduled for May 1 – 3, 2019 has now been rescheduled for May 8 – 10 Inclusive.

As a result of the change in the date of the judicial conference in May, 2019 the Central West Region schedule will be modified in each of the judicial centres including Brampton, Milton, Orangeville, Guelph, Walkerton and Owen Sound. The Trial Coordinators in these locations will work with counsel and self-represented parties to make the necessary scheduling adjustments with respect to all matters that are scheduled for the week of May 6, 2019.

As to the Brampton May, 2019 Civil Blitz Sittings originally scheduled to start on Monday May 6, the sittings will now start on Monday, May 13.

Criminal trials in Brampton already scheduled to commence the week of May 6, 2019 will be handled administratively by The Honourable Mr. Justice Bruce Durno. The Trial Coordinator in Brampton will contact counsel on all criminal cases set for the week of May 6th to attend court and set a new date before Justice Durno. If counsel have not scheduled an appearance before  December  1, 2018, bench summons will be issued to have the accused attend on a date selected by the Court so that the scheduling issue can be addressed.

There will be no judges assigned to sit on Family Case Conferences nor civil or family motions for any court location in Central West Region for the period of May 6 – 10 inclusive.

In the event a truly urgent motion must be brought, the motion will be brought to the attention of a Duty Judge to determine whether the motion will be heard.

On behalf of the Superior Court of Justice, apologies are offered for any inconvenience resulting from these necessary schedule changes.
