The Court of Appeal for Ontario is a court independent and separate from the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice, which are the two trial courts in this province. As a result, staff of the Court of Appeal cannot provide information about practices or procedures in the trial courts, nor provide information regarding the status of litigation in those courts. For information about proceedings in other courts, you must contact the trial court directly. A link to court contacts for trial courts is provided on the Ministry of the Attorney General website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/a>After Hours Contact Information<\/h2>\n

<\/a>Information about the Superior Court of Justice or the Ontario Court of Justice<\/h2>\n

If you need information about the Superior Court of Justice (including the Small Claims Court or the Divisional Court) or about the Ontario Court of Justice, you must contact those courts directly. The Court of Appeal for Ontario is separate from the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. Court of Appeal staff cannot provide information about these courts or cases before these courts. Sandra Theroulde<\/strong> is the Deputy Registrar and Manager of the Court of Appeal Modernization Project (CAMP), which oversees implementation of the Court\u2019s new digital case management system. Future phases of the project include a new public facing e-filing and payment portal, improving customer service and access. <\/a>Contacting Judges<\/h2>\n

It is not appropriate to directly contact a judge of the Court of Appeal. Any out-of-court communication concerning a case before the Court of Appeal must be in accordance with s. 4 of the Court\u2019s Practice Direction Concerning Civil Appeals at the Court of Appeal for Ontario<\/a> and s. 4 of the Court’s Criminal Practice Direction Concerning Civil Appeals at the Court of Appeal for Ontario<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

<\/a>Executive Legal Officer<\/h2>\n

Shannon Chace is the Executive Legal Officer for the Court of Appeal. The Court\u2019s Practice Directions designate the Executive Legal Officer as the contact person for: scheduling motions to intervene in appeals; requests for the assignment of an appeal management judge; requests to convene a five-judge panel to reconsider a prior precedential decision of the Court of Appeal; and requests to receive post-hearing submissions. You may direct these inquiries to Ms. Chace at: COA.ExecutiveLegalOfficer@ontario.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ms. Chace also acts as the Secretary for the Civil Rules Committee, which develops rules for procedures to be followed in civil proceedings in the Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
